Importer and QC glossary

Terms that change who pays, who controls, and whether a shipment is ready.

Open the full glossary
FOB
Seller delivers the goods on board at the named port; the buyer controls the main freight from there.
DDP
Seller quotes delivery to the named destination with most transport and import responsibilities included, subject to the stated scope.
EXW
Buyer assumes transport responsibility from the seller's premises, often including export handling.
Landed cost
Product and order costs allocated through arrival: product, packaging, tooling, freight, brokerage, duty, tariffs, inspection, and other applicable charges.
MOQ
The supplier's minimum order quantity. It affects cash exposure, inventory risk, and which price tier applies.
HS/HTS code
A product classification used to determine duty and other import requirements. Supplier codes should be verified rather than accepted blindly.
Pre-shipment inspection
A product and packaging inspection performed before shipment, using buyer-approved requirements and a defined inspection lot.
AQL
An index used with a documented acceptance-sampling plan—not a universal defect-rate promise or a substitute for product-specific criteria.
Golden sample
The controlled buyer-approved reference used to compare production appearance, construction, function, or packaging.
